Greetings from the Dean

The School of Life Dentistry at Niigata is located in a quiet residential area in central Niigata City. Not only is it conveniently situated for daily activities, but there are nearby public facilities convenient for study.
People not familiar with Niigata Prefecture are wont to think that Niigata City is often snowbound, but that is not the case. Snow falls mostly in the interior of the prefecture, not in the city, which faces the Japan Sea. The number of snow-encrusted days can be counted on one's fingers, making the city a very livable place.
The School offers a six-year curriculum from general education to basic and clinical education in a highly integrated and effective manner.
In clinical education, the School has its own unique methods. At the affiliated hospital in Niigata, home-visit dental care by a dental hospital is being provided for the first time, responding to current social needs. This feature is now being utilized in student education by allowing students to acquire experience and training through these visits. Furthermore, in addition to having an affiliated dental hospital, the School also has an affiliated medical hospital, at which clinical training is being carried out in internal medicine, surgery, and otolaryngology. Students are given the opportunity to observe surgical operations on digestive organs and treatment at the hospital beds, as well as clinical investigations and analyses. In this way, students are able to experience firsthand how medicine is practiced in a hospital and come to a greater appreciation of medicine that treats the whole person.
To achieve substantial gains in academic studies, the appropriate surroundings are necessary. As mentioned earlier, the surrounding environment of the School of Life Dentistry of Niigata is favorable for studying. On the campus, also, the School strives to improve the living and studying environment in order to raise learning effectiveness.
